Lenio Grohmann was born in Greece. She studied design at the Glasgow School of Art and holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she has been living for the past 17 years. Waking to a view of Mt. Olympus from her childhood home it is no surprise that Greek myths and history serve as inspiration for her work. Her paintings are mythical landscapes, rendered at large and transformed in a fantastic but believable poetic atmosphere. Like the mountain itself, symbolizing the meeting place of heaven and earth, the scenes evoke an anxious desire to explore the interdependence between the real and the surreal in a single world.
